At 9.36pm on Sunday (23) five crews from Bedford and Kempston attended a fire at a three-storey end-of-terrace house in Tavistock Street, Bedford, used as a house in multiple occupation (HMO).
The fire originated in the floor void of a first-floor room and spread to the second-floor floor void and roof space. Approximately 25% of the first floor was damaged by fire, and 75% of the second floor and roof space.
The fire also spread to the second floor and roof space of an adjoining property, resulting in 50% fire damage to those areas.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, two jets, an aerial platform, thermal imaging cameras, Makita gear and small tools. Gas and electricity were isolated in both properties.
A scene safety zone and full road closure were put in place. Two nearby properties were evacuated and residents provided with alternative accommodation.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
