Have your say on Council Tax increase for BFRS

Residents of Bedfordshire have until January 31( 2025) to have their say on a proposed council tax increase to their fire service precept.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Authority (FRA) has received government approval to raise the council tax levy by up to £5 for the 2025/26 financial year. If approved, this would increase the annual Band D charge for fire and rescue services from £112.72 to £117.72, or just 42p a month.
This £5 increase would generate an additional £1.1 million, which would go directly to supporting the vital services provided by Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS). Assistant Chief Officer Gavin Chambers emphasized the importance of this funding. He said: "Every pound raised through the council tax plays a critical role in maintaining the high standards of service that Bedfordshire residents rely on. For context, it costs approximately £1.2 million per year to keep a fire engine crewed and available 24/7."
The FRA is encouraging residents and businesses to participate in the ongoing consultation and share their views on whether they support the proposed increase. This is your opportunity to help ensure that BFRS continues to provide high-quality, life-saving services to the community.
