Joint Fire and Rescue and Police Christingle Service brings together community in Woburn
A heartwarming Christingle service was held for emergency services families at St Mary’s Church in Woburn.
The special celebration led by Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Bedfordshire Police took place on Tuesday (17 December) and was attended by more than 250 people, including service families and children, retired officers and local dignitries.
The service, a symbol of light and hope, included moving readings from key figures in the region. The Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Susan Lousada, the High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, shared inspiring words of goodwill, while prayers were offered by both fire and police cadets, reflecting the strong community ties between the emergency services and the public.
Both Chief Fire Officer Andrew Hopkinson and Chief Constable Trevor Rodenhurst used their Christmas messages to not only thank frontline firefighters and police officers for the important role that both services play in keeping the community safe but the families and friends that support them.
The Christingle, a traditional Christmas symbol, was handed out to children attending, as part of the service's focus on unity, joy, and reflection during the festive season. The candlelit event provided a moment of calm and solidarity, offering a space for the community to come together and reflect on the year past while looking forward to a brighter future.
Chief Fire Officer Andrew Hopkinson said: “This event is a wonderful reminder of the strength of our local community and the importance of working together to support one another. It was a privilege to join with the police and all those present in celebrating this special service.”
Chief Constable Trevor Rodenhurst added: “The service was a meaningful way to connect with the community we serve. It is always an honor to stand alongside our colleagues in the fire service to offer prayers and support during the holiday season.”
The service closed with a festive rendition of carols, spreading seasonal cheer throughout the congregation. The Christingle event marked a moment of unity, goodwill, and reflection, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
