Success at first Women in Fire Service UK, Eastern Region Development Day
On Wednesday 25 September, Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service hosted the first Women in Fire Service UK (WFS) Development Day for the Eastern Region at their Headquarters in Kempston.
Over 100 fire and rescue staff from Bedfordshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Norfolk were in attendance.
The day consisted of several workshops aimed at inspiring individuals to feel confident and competent in the workplace.
Workshop topics included:
- Feeling Empowered in a predominantly male workplace
- Fire Investigation and Fire Investigation Search Dogs
- Fire Safety and Prevention
- Health, wellbeing & fitness
- How to be a Control Operator
- Incident command
- Road safety
Chief Fire Officer, Andrew Hopkinson said: “We are delighted to be the first service to host the Eastern Region Women in Fire Service event. It’s great to see so many of our neighbouring services come together to share their knowledge and experiences. These events are a perfect opportunity to, learn, develop and network”.
Eastern Region WFS representative, Daisy Byron who is also an Area Fire Safety Manager at Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “These Development Days are for everyone working within the Fire and Rescue Service and are a great opportunity to network with like-minded individuals and share your experiences.”
